The simple but quite elegrant glass pyramid unified the vast expanse of the Louvre Museum connecting three wings. Apart from providing natural lighting, the glass pyramid lends an atrium feel to the visitor center.
The plants softens the harshness of the geometric forms.
IM Pei, the Chinese-American architect, became famous for his use of glass in many of his architectural creations. This became his signature when he was commissioned by the former US First Lady Jagueline Kennedy to design the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum in Boston. He then went on to design the first all glass skyscraper in the world, the John Hancock Tower in Boston. This pioneering design became the forerunner of modern glass skyscraper buildings, also replicated in many of Pei's own creations, worldwide.

Yeah. The Louvre is simply stunning. So much to see inside. And the walking can be hard on the feet and back. I didn't feel i had enough time the two times that I've been there on separate visits. Really marvelous so much much art pieces. You didn't include the Mona Lisa?

It was the height of summer when we first visited Paris, jun. And the Mona Lisa room (only one painting in the room) was packed with 8-10 rows of people taking photos. They kept it in a secured glass box. So with all the flashing -- not very good photo. Well, all my painting photos did not turn out well. My sculpture photos did not either. *grins* The room was very bright also in the Greco-Roman hall when I was there (both times), It would have been easy if there were not too many people, I could not get a clear shot.
I was trying to "correct" my Mona Lisa tonight (same problem -- white blob), cut also to remove the blob -- but it is still not good.
